New Delhi has been awarded as the best shopping place by Lonely Planet Magazine India Travel Awards 2018 at a glittering ceremony held at the St. Regis hotel in Mumbai on 17th May 2018. Sudhir Sobti, Chief Manager, PR and Publicity, Delhi Tourism received the award during the ceremony amidst the top industry professionals.
The Lonely Planet Magazine invited the country's elite travelers to choose their favourite destinations and most favoured travel experiences along with the jury of travel experts and professionals. The readers voted online in large numbers across various categories, to celebrate the best in travel.
Delhi was awarded as the Best Shopping Destination (India) followed by Mumbai and Bangalore while Dubai bagged the award in the international category. The prestigious award proves once again how Delhi has come a long way in expanding it's offering to the travelers and becoming a preferred tourist destination. The Lonely Planet Magazine India Travel Awards is widely acknowledged as most prominent award in the travel Industry.
The award ceremony was attended by who's who of the national travel industry, several international invitees and celebrities. Delhi has previously been awarded as the best destination for food and drink in 2013, 2014 and 2015 followed by best destination for shopping in 2017 by Lonely Planet. In the past year, Delhi has been bestowed with Best Destination Leadership Award 2017 (for first rank in the 5th edition of WTTCII- Hotelirate State Ranking Survey 2017) by the World Travel and Tourism Council India (WTTC), 'Favourite Indian City Award by Conde Nast Traveller India Magazine and exceptionally creative publication for it's Calendar 2018 by Public Relations Council of India (PRCI).
