The Tourism Department of Tamil Nadu is planning to set up high standard wayside facilities for travellers.
“The facilities are planned at an interval of 50km on major highways. The centre will have restaurants, bookshops, medical shops, ATMs, handicrafts/handloom shops, toilets, automobile service centres and internet cafes, among others,” S P Shanumuganthan, Minister of Tourism told the Indian Express.
The wayside amenities would have uniformity in architecture, reflecting the ethnicity of the state. Private and corporate investors would be encouraged to take up the projects.
Last year, Tamil Nadu registered a growth of 34% in tourist arrivals.
